2021-2022 INSTRUMENTAL PROGRAM
Welcome to the instrumental Music program at Hidden Hills! We are proud to continue offering instrumental instruction to our fourth and fifth grade students at both beginning and advanced levels. Students can choose from these ensemble instruments that are included in band or orchestra:
flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, violin, viola and cello.
To sign up, please fill out the google form linked below.
Some wonderful students at DVHS made this website that might be helpful for choosing an instrument. Music Instrument "Petting Zoo"
Once you have signed up, the next step is to prepare for class with an instrument, a book, and instrument supplies. Please refer to the linked documents below for a list of local music stores and information on preparing for class.
Hidden Hills School offers instrumental music for fourth and fifth graders by supplementing district funding with parent donations. The district supports half of the total amount needed for our instrumental music teacher. Without parental support of the music program, we would only be able to offer one lesson of instruction per week, which we believe is insufficient. Therefore, we are asking for a $200.00 per child donation for the school year from every fourth and fifth grader that is interested in learning to play a musical instrument.
Classes will be held on Thursdays and Fridays and will begin on August 26th. It may be some time before all students are ready with the supplies needed to start playing, so students will NOT need their instruments on the first day of class.
Music classes are during the regular school day and will be during class time. Students are responsible for any regular class work that is missed while participating in music.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

MEET ANDY EHLING - INSTRUMENTAL DIRECTOR
Hi, I’m Mr. Ehling, and I’ll be teaching band and strings at Hidden Hills this year. I also teach at Walt Disney elementary and Montair elementary. This is my first year in San Ramon, but I’ve been teaching elementary band and orchestra for almost 20 years. I love to see the journey from the time students play their first note, to the time they are putting on a concert together, and it’s always great to see students continue playing their instruments in middle school and high school.
I started playing the saxophone in 4th grade, and still practice and perform regularly. Staying active as a performer keeps me inspired in music, and eager to share my passion for music with the students. I’m looking forward to working with the 4th and 5th grade students of Hidden Hills, and happy to be part of this community!
